As women, we're conditioned to feel selfish when we celebrate ourselves. We're taught to believe that our self worth is tied to the needs of others. When my husband and I received our advanced degrees, there was more importance placed on his accomplishments than my own. A party was planned for him, but I had to ask for a party. I was made to feel self-centered to ask for the same recognization. No woman should feel guilty when tooting her own horn. Celebrating yourself isn't a luxury. It's a necessity!
With 10 plus years as a photographer, I have photographed women who've recognized the importance of celebrating themselves through the art of portraits to honor their journeys.
