I have wanted content images for my website for quite some time, but have never had an opportunity to schedule any sessions. This was especially difficult during the COVID-19 pandemic. Photography wasn’t/isn’t an essential business. My home wasn’t the background that I wanted to use. When businesses in Texas started to open, I decided to book a session at The Inspired Studio in Round Rock to shoot my own content. I knew what images I wanted, and the lighting that I wanted to use. Normally, another photographer would shoot your images, but I didn’t want to take any chances.
I booked my session online. I was sent the contract and a COVID-19 document to read and complete. I confirmed with the owner that I would be the only person present in the studio, and it would be cleaned before I arrived. The answer to both questions was “yes”. I also asked if I was allowed to rearrange the furniture, and she said that it was permitted. I planned on four different looks, and wanted four different set-ups. Having the ability to set-up the scenes that I mapped out in my planning sessions was important to me.
I scheduled my session for 10:00 am because the studio as east-facing windows. Although I brought lighting with me, I wanted to use natural light as much as possible. I arranged the furniture for my first look, and went to work. I was only able to complete three of my four looks, but I didn’t stress.
I am very pleased with how my images turned out. They represent who I am, and definitely my brand. Would I rather that another photographer shot them? Of course! It would have made the event much more fun. However, until things open up and it’s safer to be around other people, I will continue to shoot my own content.
