In July, I was able to return home to Chicago. It wasn’t to see family or friends (but I did manage to have dinner with a few girlfriends). I traveled to the City of Big Shoulders to attend Clickaway. The tag line for Clickaway is “a photography experience that changes everything”, and it lives up to it!
I’ve attended a total of 3 Clickaway conferences since 2016. My first one was in 2016, and it was held in Seattle. I was determined to attend once I learned it was being held in one of the cities that I always wanted to visit. True story – my husband and I were planning on moving there after college, but I became pregnant with our daughter. He didn’t want to move me away from my mom. My second conference was in 2020 in Atlanta. It was held before the big pandemic lockdown. I had the time of my life and met some great women! I signed up for Clickaway 2021; however, none of us could predict how the world was turned upside down in 2020. With precautions, they planned Clickaway 2022. It was a slightly smaller scale, but very enjoyable.
The classes that I took centered around the theme of my portraiture business which is capturing women. There’s always room to learn and improve your skills, and I’m a big fan of increasing my knowledge. I had classes that covered looking at the human body with a loving gaze and capturing it. I also had classes on lighting and self-portraits. Although I don’t photograph couples very often, I did take a class where we photographed a couple. The class was unique. It was a picnic in the park, and the photo session with the couple was after it.
It was so nice to be home, and see all the familiar landmarks, and experience the vibe that is Chicago. I haven’t lived there in over 17 years, and so much has changed. It was so inspiring, and I could really see myself scheduling sessions in the city that I love.
