Last week, one of my favorite models, Diêlha, posted that she was looking for a photographer for a Time for Print Session. A couple of photographers posted their links to her post volunteering their services. I wanted to get someone in front of my camera again so I responded to her post that I would love to photograph her again. I was happy when Diêlha messaged me about the session.
When Diêlha sent me the details on the session, she told me that it was for her birthday. We initially planned for the session to occur on a Wednesday, but the weather had other plans. She also wanted to conduct it at a local park that had lots of wildflowers. Diêlha said that she would watch the forecast, and we could decide the best day for the session. It turned out that May 29 was the perfect day.
I traveled light with this session since we were going to shoot at the golden hour. It’s one of my favorite times to shoot. The park was Brushy Creek Lake Park. I had visited this park back in late March when cabin fever hit me. When I arrived, I saw quite a few cars in the parking lot, but there wasn’t a lot of foot traffic. I felt a little more comfortable being outside.
When Diêlha arrived, she told me that she had a dress and two jumpsuits. This didn’t pose an issue for me. She led the way to this beautiful patch of flowers, but upon arriving, we saw another session in progress. It wasn’t an issue because there was plenty of space for us to shoot. The first outfit was a dress and a sun hat. The light was perfect when we started the session. It’s so refreshing to work with a model that you don’t have to direct all of the time. When I have sessions like that, I become easily bored.
We moved to another area of the park for Diêlha’s second look which was a jump shoot. The lake was part of the backdrop for the session. As we were wrapping up, I noticed an area that had a dense population of trees. I loved the mood of the scene, and I thought that the second outfit would pop. Diêlha trusted me, and we were able to capture several frames.
It was nice to get out of the house to create.
