Earlier this month, I participated in a photo walk organized by a local photographer. I went just to get out of the house, and to release some stress. I hadn’t done much creatively since my husband became ill. My life, at that time, consisted of home, hospital, and work. Honestly, I wasn’t interested in being creative, but my family said that I needed a break. My brother-in-law was in town, and he said that he would spend time at the hospital with my husband. I reluctantly agreed. I also went because a member of my photography family from Phoenix was in town. It would provide me a little extra time to spend with him and the opportunity to meet his daughter.
The photographer arranged for three models to attend the photo walk – two young ladies and a gentleman. We met at a Torchy’s on Congress. The day was overcast, and provided nice even light. I didn’t bring any OCF because I didn’t want to carry a lot of gear, and secondly, my heart wasn’t really in it. We walked down Congress looking for interesting areas for images, and I did manage to get a few. I use these types of groups shoots more for practicing than images to use in my portfolio.
Towards the end of the shoot, one of the other photographers spotted a young couple walking down the street holding hands. They were the cutest sight to see! They were coming from church, and spending time together. The photographers stopped them, and asked if we could photograph them. They were stunned! We turned it into a mini session, and it was the highlight of the photo walk for me! I only grabbed a few images, but their love for one another brought a smile to my face and heart. They reminded me of the days when my husband and I were first dating. We spent time walking together with no particular agenda. It also made me want to finish up the photo walk so that I could see the love of my life.
Here’s to young love. May it always remind us of how wonderful life can be.
