At the end of August, one of the models, Diêlha, who sat for my Spanish Harlem project contacted me about her own personal project. Her concept was a vintage shoot. The photographer who was originally working with her stopped responding to emails, and ultimately, ghosted her. Diêlha asked if I would be interested in photographing her concept. I told her that I would love to photograph the session. I was excited because the concept fits the aesthetic of my brand.
We settled on a date, and she asked if I had suggestions on an area for the session. I’ve only been here three months so I am still not as knowledgeable on areas for sessions. However, I remembered the sightseeing tour that my husband and I took of downtown Georgetown, and I knew that it would provide an amazing backdrop. We set the time for the shoot for a Saturday at 9:00am. I settled on that time of day because I wanted to use more hard light in the images.
I arrived downtown about 8:30am. When I parked my car, noticed some vintage cars parked around the square. There was a Jaguar car show that morning. Car owners or restorers were showing off their cars. After grabbing a cup of coffee, I began scouting areas for the shoot. Let me tell you that there were so many little nooks and crannies in downtown Georgetown! I can definitely say that I will use the area more in the future.
When Diêlha arrived, we quickly got to work. We started on the steps of the courthouse, and then walked around to the cars. We saw a car that would be a great prop for some of the images. We asked a group of owners if they knew who owned the car, but he wasn’t nearby. One of the gentlemen, Richard Wright, showed us his car, and it was perfect. It had a James Bond-like feel to it. We asked if Diêlha could pose with his car, and he was happy to oblige us. We captured some of my favorite images of the session using the car.
Our session last about an hour. We called it because of time and the humidity! It kicked my butt! When I culled the images, I was so happy with the art that we created. I felt honored that Diêlha asked me to be part of her project.
