Over the past year, I have used High Speed Sync for my images. I especially enjoyed using it outside. There’s still quite a bit for me to learn so I signed up for an Off-Camera Flash class taught by Tim Babiak of Precision Camera here in Austin. This was the second class that I took from Precision. After purchasing my Sony from Precision, I was given a certificate for $20.00 off a class. This was the perfect time to use it. The class was held at Brushy Creek in Cedar Park. Space was limited to 8 people. We had to wear masks, and social distance from one another. The class was two hours long, and there was a model to photograph. We shot in various locations according to the light in the area. It as a great class.
I learned a couple of things during the class. Normally, I have my f-stop at 2.8. Tim challenged me to try F/4 for my next session. I also learned to set-up my exposure before adding light to the scene. While watching a video that Derrel Ho-Shing did for the Photo Cookout, I learned this same point as well. What I have been doing was just setting up the light, and then shooting. I have a session coming up next weekend, and I plan on incorporating both of these points into the session.
