I officially launched Tina Strickland Photography, LLC in March 2022. It was intentional to launch during Women’s History Month. This would be a personal reminder that this month would always be special for me. I thought that I would once again have to delay starting my business due to personal reasons, but God worked things out in my favor. I didn’t want my fear to get in the way.
I decided that I needed new content for both my website and social media. The look that I wanted to achieve was casual. My goal was to create images for both my website and social media. Images that would make any woman say, “I could do that”. I also wanted to complete a couple of personal projects because it had been some time since I did anything creative. I had an idea for one set of images using a crown, but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do for the second set of images. I had the perfect model in mind, Talor Reign. I worked with her in January, and I really liked her personality. I knew that she would be the perfect fit for my plans. I also knew that I wanted to shoot in studio. I wanted a polished look because this is the aesthetic that I want for my images. I booked one of my favorite locations, The Lumen Room. It’s a blank canvas, and the perfect setting for the images. For Talor’s make-up, I instructed her to do a smokey eye and a red lip. This is one of my favorite looks. I also asked Talor to bring red pumps. She brought both pumps and boots!
The first look was a simple white shirt and ripped jeans. I purchased the shirt from one of my favorite stores, The Gap, and Talor used her own jeans. She was barefoot for the images. I set-up the blue couch in the middle of the studio and used the large window as my light source. We turned on some classic R&B and started the session. The images were everything that I imagined they would be! I must admit that I placed one of the images on my website the same evening of the session!
The second look was a black and white printed dress that I found on Instagram. I cannot remember the company’s name which isn’t a good look for me. For this look, Talor wore her red boots, and they were a perfect complement to the dress. For this look, I used the black wall as the backdrop as well as the white wall. I was over the moon!
The final look was the creative portion of the session. I brought this beautiful black full skirt that had embroidered flowers all over it. I also brought a black bodysuit and crown that I purchased from Amazon. For this look, we just had fun.
The images exceeded my expectations! I was able to create great images, and grab behind the scenes content as well. This was the perfect way to kick-off Women’s History month as well as the official launch of my business.
