It’s cold here in Central Texas, but I still wanted to have a session outside. Truth be told, I had planned this session for December, but the model caught COVID. So, I held off because of the holidays. With parties and the holiday season, I knew that it would be difficult to schedule a session. So, I waited.
I reached out to a MUA/model that I’d been following for a while, Ta’Lor, and told her the concept. I purchased an animal print dress and a wide belt. I sent Ta’Lor images for makeup and shoes. The location that I decided on was the Long Center. I had never had a session there, and I was drawn to the lines. We decided upon a Sunday morning, but we didn’t count on it being cold!
The day was a beautiful sunny day, but it was windy. I parked in the parking lot and saw the most beautiful shadow patterns on one of the walls of the garage. The sun was shining through the vine covered fence and created the most beautiful shadows on the wall of the garage. This was one of the first locations for our session. My lighting set-up was a soft box with a Godox strobe, and I used high speed sync. I wanted that nice shallow depth of field on the image.
From there, we moved to a stairwell with dappled light. It was amazing! The lines of the stairs and railing added a bit of texture to the images.
Our finally location was a platform on the back side of the building. It had a beautiful view of downtown Austin, but I used the windows of the building for the backdrop. You could see the buildings reflected in the glass, but they were slightly distorted.
This session was a great way to kick-off the New Year!b
