As women, we all too often don’t schedule portraits sessions for ourselves. We make sure that our children have yearly school photos taken. We also orchestrate family photos, and place undue stress on ourselves to make sure those sessions are perfect. Those portraits are very important, but so are images that document your story. You are living history, and history must be documented.
So why do women hesitate to schedule portrait sessions for themselves. There are many different reasons, but here are a few that I see all too often.
Insecurity: Many women struggle with concerns on whether they’re photogenic, or how they will look in photos. I get it. I feel the same way. However, during your consultation, we discuss clothing that will show you in your best light. During your session, I guide you into poses that flatter you and your body type.
Busy schedules: Often, women are juggling multiple roles, and put the needs of others above their own. Scheduling a portrait session may seem self-indulgent and selfish. Well, it isn’t. You deserve to be celebrated in portraits that you’ll be proud to display in your home. You are worth documenting!
Fear of judgement: Sometimes societal standards of beauty prevent a woman from stepping in front of a camera. This can be smothering; however, at the end of the day, only your opinion matters.
The reasons for scheduling a portrait session may differ for every woman, but there are 5 basic reasons why a photo session critical to every woman.
It’s an act of self-love. The portrait session is your opportunity to embrace and celebrate yourself. It stops the cycle of self-neglect and fosters a sense of empowerment.
You’re creating memories. From the moment you complete your consultation until the image reveal, you’re creating an unforgettable event for your life. You’re pampered and celebrated. Who doesn’t like that?
It’s a confidence builder. The session is solely focused on you. What you want to wear, your makeup, and how you want to be represented in the images. Seeing yourself through the lens of a skilled photographer can be transformative and helps break down the barriers of self-doubt.
Your voice is seen. A portrait session is an opportunity for artistic expression and creativity. It allows women to showcase their personality, style, and individuality in a way that reflects their true selves.
You’re leading by example. Our lives are letters that others can read. Your portrait session tells your story and can give another woman the courage to document her own journey.
I love encouraging women to overcome their hesitations and embrace the transformative experience of a portrait session. It is truly an unforgettable journey towards self-discovery and empowerment.
