I finally attended WPPI in Las Vegas, NV. It’s a yearly conference for wedding, portrait, and videographers. Creatives from all over the world attend this weeklong event. I’ve wanted to attend for a very long time, but something always prevented me from attending. Last year, I made the decision that I was going to attend, Lord willing.
I decided not to have a roommate for the trip. I wanted some solitude because I don’t really have it at home. It was one of the best decisions that I made. When I arrived at the hotel on March 4, 2024, my reservation was for March 3, 2024! I made a HUGE mistake. However, the hotel was able to adjust my reservation, and I didn’t lose my room. They even had a room available when I arrived at 10:30 AM.
After dropping my things off in my room and taking a shower, I went to registration, and attempted to go to the Expo. I didn’t know that we couldn’t access the trade floor until Tuesday. I ran into one of my photographer friends, and she took me to Walgreens so that I could purchase snacks and water.
I wanted to make sure that I had a wonderful time, so I purchased tickets for three photo walks. I spent a lot of time on the Expo floor visiting the vendor booths, and I was able to collect lots of reusable bags. I had my headshot taken by the Peter Hurley Headshot Crew, and I applied to be an ambassador for a company. I visited the shooting bays and was able to capture images of some of the models. I never use those images in my portfolio because they’re all pre-planned by others. The lighting and camera settings are all set-up for the photographers. You simply take your turn and take the picture.
I was able to spend time with my photographer cousins and my mentors. All in all, I had an amazing time, and Lord willing, I hope that I can attend in 2025.
