You’ve decided to have professional images taken. You’ve chosen the photographer, selected you attire, and decided upon a location. You even have the theme locked down. Your photographer reminds you that professional makeup is needed for the session. What? You ask yourself why you need to pay someone to do your makeup for a photo session. Well, there are several very good reasons.
1. A Polished Look – There’s a distinct difference between everyday makeup and “camera ready” makeup. If you wear makeup daily, you usually wear foundation, mascara, blush, and lipstick. Some may wear false eyelashes. You may even out on some eyeshadow. You look great! However, it won’t photograph as well. Professional makeup artist (MUA) knows how to highlight, literally, your facial features. They begin with a base to create an even surface. A Professional MUA understands lighting, and how it will hit your face to show off your features. Using makeup, they contour and highlight areas of your face so that the light hits it perfectly. Who wouldn’t want the light to show off your gorgeous face?
2. Professional equipment – A professional photographer uses cameras with high pixel counts. This means that your images come out extremely detailed. You can almost see the pores on your pores! Wearing makeup doesn’t hide who you are but enhances what you’ve been blessed with.
3. Being spoiled – Having someone fuss and fawn over you while sitting in the Makeup Artist’s chair is amazing. Trust me, sitting in that chair is relaxing. Also, your makeup doesn’t have to be over the top if that isn’t your thing. It isn’t mine. I like a fresh look where I still look like me.
4. It makes the photographer’s job easier – With professional applied makeup, a photographer’s editing time can be significantly reduced. This means that our turnaround time could be shortened. It’s always nice to receive the imaged sooner than anticipated.
During your consultation, you can talk to the photographer about makeup. Do you want full on glam or a natural look? What you decide to wear, and the location are also factors in determining your look. Don’t be afraid to share any concerns that you have regarding makeup with your photographer. Ultimately, we want you to be comfortable during your session!
